How soon they forget
I was just writing about LinkedIn again, and was reminded that nobody ever answered the trivia question based on this post:
Who was the original fictitious Rob Carpenter?

Curt,
As I have been doing research for the above ERP history Wiki, I have enjoyed reading your Software Memories. I am also facinated with this marketplace, and know from experience that there are great stories, great companies, great products, great technology, great people. I found it hard to just keep collecting as I decided the best vehicle for getting is all out there. I really think the Wiki is the way to go. Get everyone involved. How about it? Will you jump in?

OK. Time’s up.
Rob Carpenter was the person you asked for on the telephone if you responded to an MSA print ad.
You’re right. There wasn’t anybody by that name. But the two people who handled all the responses in his name were Tim Sullivan and then John Lister, both of whom worked for me when I ran Sales Operations.
The Tim Sullivan who went on to work with Warren Culpepper? HE was the (co)-original Rob Carpenter?
I have an MSA Software advertisement, date unknown, showing a man sitting at a desk with his hair standing straight up with the caption, “Our Newest Software Took $20 Million dollars to Develop, 5 Years To Write And We’re Giving It Away.” On the bottom, it’s written to call Robert Carpenter.
This man has a striking resemblance to my father, and I’d like to inquire if anyone would know who posed for that picture. I still have the ad and can send you a picture of it if you contact me. Mary Ellen Probanski mprobanski@verizon.net
The magazine was named Datamation.
I remember Robert Carpenter! LOL! I got a chance to answer phones for a few hours as a CDP participant and loved it when someone said they went to school with Robert and would really appreciate it if I put him right through… Yea, right!
